The spectacular ride feel, compliance, lightweight, liveliness, and comfort of Titanium come to life in a long-time Kona classic: the Ti Explosif. Also available as a 27.5-inch-wheel aggressive cromoly Trail bike, the frame-only Titanium version comes straight from the pros at Lynskey Performance Designs and features the same geometry as its cromoly brother: 68 degree head tube angle, short 420mm chainstays and wicked standover. The result is a lightning-quick, feather-light, fun-as-hell Kona hardtail built to rage technical singletrack from the US to the UK and beyond.

Introducing a new platform grouping for 2016: the Originals—our ever-evolving Kona staples that have graced millions of miles of trail the world over. From the cult flow of the fully rigid, singlespeed Unit, to the storied performance and reliability of the Cinder Cone, Blast, Explosif and Lana’i. These are the bikes that built our reputation. And we build them today with innovation that never sleeps and performance that makes the Kona Ride as sweet as honey.
At Kona we only use 3-2.5 Titanium, an incredibly strong and lightweight metal consisting of 3 percent aluminum, 2.5 percent vanadium, and 94.5 percent pure titanium. Excellent fatigue life, lightweight property consistency, form-ability, and corrosion resistance are but a few of the reasons we use 3-2.5. Our titanium frames, aside from the Honzo Ti which is made in Taiwan, are manufactured in Tennessee, U.S.A. by Lynskey Performance Designs, one of the top titanium fabricators in the world.
2016 Ti bikes: Honzo Ti, Raijin Ti, Explosif Ti, Esatto Ti, Rove Ti
Short chainstays and seatstays provide a perfect balance of stability and power transfer when out of the saddle and pedaling hard. Shorter seatstays also have less deflection during braking and accelerate faster than longer stays. Quick, aggressive in corners, easy to maneuver and laterally stiff.
The benefits of the 27.5-inch wheel are simple: they roll over obstacles and track better than 26-inch wheels, but are more maneuverable and nimble than 29-inch ones. They are, quite literally, the best of both worlds, effectively increasing overall performance and rider confidence.
44mm headtubes are a versatile spec which works with both straight and tapered steerers by switching out the lower headset cup. The stock configuration is internal and is for 1 1/8” steerer. Switching to an external lower cup allows for the use of a tapered 1.5” steerer. The best of both worlds.
