Featuring the same new frame as the Hei Hei Race models, one that’s confident, fast, light and oh-so-fun, the Hei Hei DL Trail is specifically oriented towards committed cross-country riders who want a little more diversity out of their rig. With 120mm of front suspension and a component package that’s more Trail than Race, this is a singletrack samurai
Frame Features:
The new Hei Hei platform centers around our new Fuse Independent Suspension—a clean, simple design that eliminates a pivot at the chainstay seatstay junction to create a lighter, stiffer ride feel. The frame itself features low-slung frame weight and excellent standover, highlighted by a rider fit that incorporates a short stem, long front center and compact rear triangle. Overall an extremely capable, light, quick and performance-savvy cross-country dual-suspension frame design.

Our top-of-the-line, singletrack speedster sees a complete overhaul for 2016. A new frame design, highlighted by our new Fuse Independent Suspension and a frame design centered around speed, control and more speed. The goal was to take the trail-savvy nature of its predecessor to the next level. Featuring two model delineations—Hei Hei Race and Hei Hei Trail—we offer two distinct models with four differently spec’d packages to appease every kind of cross-country enthusiast.
Kona Race Light 7005/6061 are lighter, more performance-oriented fabrications of our 7005/6061 tubing. Designed to meet Kona’s discerning race specifications, Race Light 7005/6061 use custom butting to create thicker tubes at weld areas and important parts of the frame, providing incredible strength and torsional integrity to the feel of the ride. We remove wall thickness in other parts of the frameset to lighten up the bike, giving the perfect balance between quickness and stiffness.

The major benefit of an internal headset, whereby the bearing cups are actually pressed into the frame and are easily removable, is the extra layer of protection it provides the bearings against the elements. An internal headset also reduces stack height, so the height of the stem and bars are more adjustable, giving the rider the best fit possible.
More girth at the bottom of the head tube better distributes shock force, prolonging the bearing life of the headset itself and eliminating brake shudder, while providing positive steering performance. The inherent strength of its triangular design also means a stronger steering position and improved balance, giving the rider more control in rough terrain. A zero-stack, tapered head tube also puts strength where the load is going—into the lower headset cup—maximizing bearing durability where it’s needed.
Tubeless rims allow for tires with more puncture resistance, better tire grip on the trail, lower rolling resistance and weight savings over traditional tube and tire systems.
12x142mm, 12x148 and 12x157 rear axle standards provide two major advantages to the Kona rider: the 12mm diameter of the rear axle provides the rear hub and frame with a stiff interface, while the 142/148/157mm outer diameter of the hub allows the wheel to be quickly and properly positioned in the frame before the rear axle is inserted. New for 2016, you’ll see the 12x148 standard in the mix, featured primarily on the new alloy Honzos. 12x148 provides more tire clearance at the chainstay yoke, while the rear wheel is stiffer and more durable relative to a 12x142 thru-axle.
A brand new platform for 2016, Kona’s new Fuse Independent Suspension is designed to be as lightweight and efficient as possible, oriented specifically for the demands of the modern cross-country rider. Just like all of our suspension, a predictable leverage ratio is still the highest priority. The design incorporates Kona’s single pivot design for a responsive, snappy feel. One of the design’s key features is the absence of a pivot at the seat and chainstay interface, so instead it relies on small degrees of frame flex. The result is an efficient, laterally stiff suspension system that takes weight savings to a new level—Fuse is 240 grams lighter than its Beamer predecessor.
